Air cleaning devices

A scrubber is an air-cleaning device that extracts the toxic and corrosive components from a gas flow. These components are absorbed in a liquid, and - through catalisation - transformed immediately into biodegradable or recyclable products. The absorption liquid is held in a tank underneath the scrubber, and constantly circulated by a pump. This process holds the advantage of very low water consumption.

There are 3 types of scrubbers:

  • Packed Tower scrubbing
    Most scrubbers are packed tower scrubbers. They can easily handle fluctuations in gas flow and concentration. The highest efficiency can be obtained by using a structured packing in combination with a special liquid distributor.
  • Ejector scrubbing
    Self-extracting, by means of ejectors. This type of scrubber has a high removal efficiency, and is used for high concentrations of poisonous and hazardous gasses. The flow of treated air is rather low (max. 44 Nm3/hr).
  • Jet Venturi scrubbing
    Self-extracting, for gas flows contaminated with dust and particles, and for gas cooling. In combination with a packed tower scrubber the Jet Venturi replaces the fan.

Of course it is always possible to combine the different scrubbing methods to obtain the required result. Eliminating ethylene-oxide and/or propylene-oxide from vent flows of reactors or EO sterilisers is one of our specialities. Ethylene- and propylene-oxide are actively absorbed in the scrubber solution. This solution contains a cheap catalyst which converts ethylene-oxide into ethyleneglycols, and propylene-oxide into propylene-glycols. Normally, the transformation of ethylene- and propylene-oxide into glycols is a very slow reaction. However, our chemical and technical knowhow ensures a continuous scrubbing operation. No time to waste!
